Complete Music of Čiurlionis for String Quartet

We often receive requests for sheet music of chamber music by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. We have therefore decided to re-edit all of Čiurlionis' music for string quartet, which consists of the Quartet in C minor, two canons, three fugues, and the Theme and Variations in B minor, together with the cellist Augustinas Vasiliauskas, a former long-term member of the Vilnius String Quartet. The Vilnius Quartet revisions of these works were published in 1998, but on the recommendation of Vasiliauskas, mistakes were corrected, strokes and other details were clarified.

Čiurlionis' best-known work for strings is the Quartet in C minor, although the composer himself was not entirely satisfied with it (as he had to meet the academic requirements of Leipzig Conservatory professor Carl Reinecke when he composed it): "I feel that I can compose a quartet a hundred times better." Only three of the quartet's four movements have survived. According to musicologist Vytautas Landsbergis, the music of the String Quartet in C minor is graceful, romantic, full of homesickness and memories of Lithuania.
