New Vinyl Synthetic Piss by Artisans
Music Information Centre Lithuania released the second album by the contemporary music ensemble Artisans, boldly titled synthetic piss. The album, available in digital and vinyl formats, features nine compositions that do not lack academic musical criticism. The unexpected album design was created using a collection of toilet paper collected by artist Benita Gikaitė.
The contemporary music ensemble Artisans was formed in 2019, initiated by composers, performers, musicologists, improvisers, and sound artists studying at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Their goals were diverse, and according to the ensemble members, their continuity was determined by a mixture of success, frustration, and anger, which this group of ambitious and talented young artists is full of. Their first album, PARIBYS, was released in 2021. The ensemble currently consists of Liepa Vozgirdaitė, Lukas Butkus, Kristupas Gikas, Gediminas Stepanavičius, and Dominykas Snarskis.
"In the album synthetic piss, we experiment with outdated MIDI sound libraries, existential anxiety aesthetics, early 2000s pop culture, PowerPoint slides, cringe aesthetics, and the fetishisation of Lithuanian folk music, transforming it into a joyful jumble of sounds," said L. Vozgirdaitė.
