News! Digital sheet music for string quartet "Ellipses" by Vytautas V. Jurgutis now available
“Ellipses, written for the Arditti Quartet in 2003, has a complex, virtuosically effective sound. And it is one of the few pieces that Vytautas V. Jurgutis has written exclusively for acoustic instruments - but the high density of musical events and the various details of extended playing techniques create an almost electronic sound. Or is it an attempt to combine the "technical" with the "organic"? The meaning of the title "Ellipses" for the composer here is therefore twofold. It is both a linguistic term - the omission of easily inferred words in sentences, and the more common meaning of a geometric figure - the paths of wandering sounds, programmed into the structures of the work, and yet tangibly audible.” – musicologist Linas Paulauskis writes about the work.
