Rytis Mažulis' new album, "Tempered Tempus"
Music Information Centre Lithuania has released composer Rytis Mažulis’ album "Tempered Tempus", featuring two works for cello and phonograph. Cellist Anton Lukoszevieze recorded these pieces for the album, which is available on CD and on music streaming platforms.
Rytis Mažulis is one of the most prominent composers of contemporary Lithuanian music, a proponent of radical minimalism, and a champion of monistic and neo-avant-garde ideas. Using the most ascetic means possible — microintervals — the composer is able to transform their limitations into a dynamic, infinite sound, blurring the boundaries of time and space.
“I chose two somewhat similar works — ‘Schisma’ and ‘Solipse’ — for cello and phonograph — because they were performed by A. Lukoszevieze, with whom I share a long and meaningful creative friendship spanning some 20 years (‘Schisma’ was a piece written specifically for him and dedicated to him).”
