Description
Cello and electronic tape
Through the works Schisma and Solipse, composer Rytis Mažulis continues a specific theme of his creative exploration – the investigation of generating and utilising micro-intervallic structures in music. Both compositions are based on a similar concept: a half-tone is equally divided into the smallest audible intervals, and time units are subdivided similarly (Schisma), or a sequence of increasing micro-intervals is derived statistically according to an arithmetic progression (Solipse). This results in a polyphonic micro-tempo texture, where each individual part or track moves at its own tempo, slightly differing from the others.
