Description

Justina Repečkaitė is one of the most prominent contemporary Lithuanian composers, whose name is becoming increasingly established on the international music scene. Born in 1989, she studied in Lithuania and France, and later refined her skills at the renowned IRCAM institute in Paris, where she currently lives and works. Her music is distinguished by its conceptual depth, precisely constructed structures, and a unique, intellectually driven artistic language.

"With this album, I aim to guide the listener through my compositions spanning the years from 2012 to 2024, and recorded in the Baltic States, Berlin, and Paris. They represent a tapestry of my creative journey, starting with solo compositions like Datura, moving through works combining solo instruments with electronics, such as Incantare and Sturnus vulgaris cohibitus, and progressing to ensemble compositions like Tapisserie or my vocal piece La Cité des Dames. This journey continues to evolve with pieces for string orchestra like Chartres, leading to larger orchestral works like Vellum, and finally, La muë for serpent, children’s choir, and electronics. My aim was to give the album a structure where strictly structured monumental pieces are interwoven with more free-form compositions of smaller instrumentations."
